This is a new development for me: combining my interest in textiles with my artistic skills. I created this piece using a mixture of vintage and modern fabrics, beads and buttons. It is part machine-stitched, part hand-stitched. I'm definitely going to experiment some more with this style. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it too.

Self-portrait (2005)
Black marker and oil pastel on paper
30 x 36cm (12 x 14in)

Nobody seems to like this self-portrait except me. I've been told it looks nothing like me. Despite the criticisms, I am still quite attached to it. Self-portraits are always a useful exercise. On this occasion, I was experimenting with using black marker combined with oil pastel. I love the scruffy effect they create together.
