TRAVELS AROUND ITALY
I've visited Italy many times over the last few years: Venice, Sicily, Sardinia, Florence, Bologna. It's a beautiful and vibrant country and one I love to paint.

I loved the contrast here of the bright blue boats and orange parasols and the crumbling brown buildings behind. Cefalù is a lovely sleepy fishing town in Sicily. |

I saw this scooter parked up in a street opposite Palermo Cathedral last summer. I thought it captured Palermo well. Everyone there seems to have a scooter. A word of advice if you're thinking about visiting Palermo: whatever you do, don't drive (unless you like scary rides)! |

I decided to revisit the scooter as a subject as it's such a fantastic design. I'm really happy with this picture. It's definitely one of my favourites. |

After stripping down to our t-shirts and pants and swimming in the sea one evening on a beach by the cottage where we stayed, we noticed the sun setting, a dramatic mix of pinks and blues. I used lots of texture paste on this picture to create an interesting surface. This works well with the oil pastels too, as only the raised areas picked up their highlights. |
