TRAVELS AROUND FRANCE
France is one of my favourite places to be in the world and it always gives me loads of inspiration for paintings.

Fishes, Normandy (2005)
Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
40 x 40cm (16 x 16in)
unframed
£160
These fish caught my eye on a fish counter in Normandy last October. The lady behind the counter thought I was a bit crazy for taking a photograph. I'm sure she'd have thought me even more crazy if I'd pulled out my sketch book.

Three pumpkins (2005)
Acrylic on canvas
50 x 40cm (19 x 16in)
unframed
SOLD
I was fascinated by these huge pumpkins in a supermarket in Normandy and thought they'd make a good subject for a painting.
I used texture paste to build up the surface of the pumpkins. This doesn't come across well on screen, but makes for a dramatic effect when you see the picture in person.

Cattle truck, Normandy (2005)
Oil pastel on paper
41 x 30cm (16 x 12in)
unframed
SOLD
Another memory from my trip to Normandy. This old cattle truck was parked in the drive of the cottage where we stayed. I sat and drew it on a lovely sunny day in October. I picked the right day because it poured down the rest of the week. I think the van is a Citroen H, which I believe has gained cult status in recent years.

Still life with bread and wine (2005)
Oil pastel on paper
34 x 25cm ( 13 x 10in)
unframed
£50
I set up this still life in Normandy last October. The arrangement didn't need much thought - it was pretty much set up for me on the table in the cottage where we stayed. (I just added the tubes of paint!)
